Alison is an award winning sport journalist and broadcaster, who made her name as a cricket commentator on the BBC’s iconic Test Match Special programme (TMS).

A trail blazer in her field, Alison has led the way as a female sports commentator, reporting on her first Test match in 2003 at Lord’s for BBC Radio, before going on her first England men’s tour to Pakistan in 2005, then establishing herself in 2007 as the first woman to be a regular part of TMS’s ball by ball commentary team. Since then she has covered the international game as her full time career, taking in World Cups and touring to all major Test playing nations.

From cricket, Alison transferred her commentary skills to tennis, hockey, golf and Olympic sports, where many other UK women have now followed in lead commentary roles.

In 2014, after turning freelance, she again led the way, becoming the first woman to commentate on international cricket for ABC Grandstand in Australia. That was followed in 2017 by being a key part of the Ashes series coverage on BT Sport - the first time a woman had commentated on a men’s Ashes series for television. 2018 has seen Alison appointed as a lead commentator on Channel 7’s Test coverage in Australia as part of their new broadcast deal.

In 2014 Alison was voted Sports Broadcaster of the Year by the Sports Journalists Association (SJA).

Alison has commentated on Wimbledon, the Australian Open and French Open as part of the BBC’s tennis team, and has played key roles at the Beijing, London and Rio Olympics as a presenter and commentator for BBC Radio Five Live, as well as for Channel 4 at the London Paralympics.

An undergraduate of the University of Nottingham, she qualified as a journalist at Falmouth College of Arts - training which has proved invaluable when covering sensitive and difficult stories. In 2007, she found herself singlehandedly reporting the story of Bob Woolmer’s suspected murder at the Cricket World Cup in the West Indies for the BBC. She also reported on the death of Australian batsman Philip Hughes in 2014.

Alison presents the weekly cricket podcast ‘Stumped’, which airs on the BBC World Service, All India Radio and ABC Grandstand.
